Comments: | These large silks are usually found unmounted, although Godden noted that the Bookseller of October 1862 carried an advertisement which listed this title as 'framed from 5/- each'. Since they were available in 1862, and Stevens pictures as such were first introduced in 1879, these silks pre-date the Stevengraphs by some 17 years. The silk above is unmounted, although the marks at top and bottom of the silk could have been caused by the removal of this silk from a frame. There is a second, almost identical silk to this [su4 on this site]; the difference being on the words at the very bottom of the silk. |
