Cunard Line's RMS Lucania. Launched in 1893, the Lucania, along with her sister ship Campania, set record Atlantic crossing times right from her maiden voyage. However, with the arrival of the German liner Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, and then Cunard's own Mauretania and Lusitania, by the turn of the century she had lost this position. She still made North Atlantic runs, but in 1909 she suffered a severe fire while laid up at New York and was sold to shipbreakers. |
