by Geoffrey Godden:
Godden does not record this silk correctly.

The title he attributes is " Leopold of Bavaria ", and then produces the following description:-

Prince Leopold of Bavaria was born in Munich in 1846. He entered the Bavarian army in 1861, became Field-Marshal in 1903 and commanded the 9th Army in the First World War. He died in 1930.
The title was first listed on label 23+34b of 1888, but the silk would appear to have been made mainly for the Continental market. The portrait shown in plate 164 - middle row, left - probably represents Leopold of Bavaria.

However, in a later hand written correction to his book, Godden notes that these words relate to the son, whereas the father is the actual subject of the silk portrait. Godden also notes that the reference to plate 164 is actually to that of Tsar Alexander II, not Leopold.

The corrected version should be:-

Luitpold: Prinzregent Luitpold Karl Joseph Wilhelm Ludwig von Bayern. Born 12 March 1821. Died 12 December 1912. Regent of Bavaria from 1886 to 1912.
