by Godden:
Godden does not include this title on his catalogue, although he does include the silk on plate 164 - being one of the pages of the Stevens Family album. In a later manuscript addition to his book, Godden notes that the photograph was that of Czar Alexander II.

Other comments:
Alexander II. Born in Moscow on 29 April 1818, and was assassinated on 13 March 1881 in St. Petersburg. He was the Emperor of the Russian Empire from 3 March 1855 until his death, and also the Grand Duke of Finland and King of Poland until 1867 when it was annexed into the Russian Empire.

Alexander made a state visit to England in 1838 and took an instant fondness to his distant cousin, the young Queen Victoria, who was just a year younger than Alexander. This fondness most have been short lived, as Victoria married her German cousin Prince Albert in February 1840. Alexander himself, on 16 April 1841 in St Petersburg, married Princess Marie of Hesse, who thereafter was known as Maria Alexandrovna.
