A L.N.W.R [London and North Western Railway] engine and two and a quarter carriages emerging from under a bridge on the right. Train travelling from right to left. Signals on left-hand side, and red flowering shrubs in foreground.

This is a totally different train from the early LORD HOWE one, previously listed [see st480 on this web site]. Here, a low engine with separate coal-tender and two and a third coaches is travelling from right to left, approaching signals; and a scenic background has been introduced, with a bridge near the right-hand edge.
This version first occurs on type B2 or B3 card-mounts of about 1887 but is more commonly found on post-1888 type C card-mounts [the image above is of a type B2 card-mount]. With the early runs of this subject, the woven design measures only 5 3/10 inches [13.5cm] in length - so it does not completely fill a standard-size window. Later versions were 'stretched' slightly, and on these the silk design is at least 5 1/2 inches [14.0cm] in length.
