The ribbon is signed on the top turn-over:
T. STEVENS MANUFACTR. COVENTRY & LONDON. The medal was struck to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Sunday Schools. There is a bust of the founder Robert Raikes (1736-1811) on the front, with his name on either side of the bust. Around the edge of the medal are the words; " FOUNDER OF SUNDAY SCHOOLS 1780 ". On the rear is a detailed image of a lion, with the words around the edge: " CENTENARY OF SUNDAY SCHOOLS MACCLESFIELD 1880 ". front and rear views of medal |
