This campaign ribbon was on behalf of the incumbant Democrat President Grover Cleveland with Allen G Thurman as Vice President. They were however unsuccessful against the Republican challengers Harrison & Morton.

It is believed that Stevens also produced the campaign ribbon for Harrison & Morton, and this is recorded as sb476.
