This interpretation of the Black Horse symbol of Lloyds Bank is a limited
edition. It was produced by J & J Cash Ltd., of Coventry, by the Jacquard silk
weaving process, which was developed in the eraly 1820's. The Black Horse
symbol itself is even older, first having been seen as a hanging sign in Lombard
Street, in the City of London, in the late 1670's. Originally the sign of a goldsmith,
as a result of numerous amalgamations it passed into the possession of Lloyds
Bank in 1864. Since 1975 the Black Horse has become even more widely known
in its 'live' interpretations, particularly in television advertisements.
