Comments:

by Geoffrey Godden:
YE OLDE LONDON STREETE (also titled THE OLD LONDON STREET)
This is a silk view of a London street as reconstructed for the 1885 Exhibition. It was sold mounted as a single silk at 1s, and it is also found as the central view of the multi-subject souvenir of the International Inventions Exhibition.

Other comments:
This silk has been seen with the same title, but without the additional words " INTERNATIONAL INVENTIONS EXHIBITION, LONDON, 1885 ", implying that once the exhibition closed, Grant continued to sell this silk.

On the reverse of this silk picture is a bespoke printed label, giving the context of the silk:

The actual silk included in the card mount above was also sold at the Exhibition as a "loose" item. It was slotted into two cuts in card board, Grant name written on the top, and "From the International Inventors Exhibition in London 1885" written on the back. I have one such silk in my collection, and have seen this format a number of times, which implies it was a deliberate marketing exercise by Grant.
