This bookmark does not have a woven makers name, see below.
As however the design is almost identical to the ribbon titled Benj. Harrison / (No Free Trade) / Republican Candidate / 1888 (recorded as gb100), which is signed, it is reasonable to assume this ribbon was also made by GRANT. In particular, the design of the eagle in front of the portrait is identical. Where the woven date would be expected, all that appears are dots, implying the date had been removed prior to weaving. As the 1892 campaign ribbons seem to have been made by Moon, whilst this bookmark is assumed to have been made by Grant, it seems unlikely the bookmark above was for the 1892 campaign. It seems more likely this bookmark is a variant of this other GRANT woven 1888 campaign bookmark. view of reverse of this bookmark |
