Comments:
At the time of the original design and making of this silk postcard, the central cross design was considered a symbol of good luck - it being a very ancient and worldwide emblem representing the sun. [Derived from sanskrit - svasti, meaning Well Being: and su, meaning good, with asti, meaning he is]. Only later was the spelling changed and it became associated with a very different ideology.

Note too that there is no right-way-round for the silk, and this card is found with the shamrock both below and above the symbol, as shown in the two images on this page:
