by Sprake:
"W.F. Cody (Buffalo Bill)." Larger version than STG 93 (so128 on this site], depicting Cody surrounded by portraits of seven Red Indian chiefs and one American.

by Godden:
William Frederick Cody (1846-1917) has been previously listed under BUFFALO BILL [so128 on this site].
The important large-size silk titled W. F. CODY shows 'Buffalo Bill' surrounded by the portraits of seven Indian chiefs and Nate Salsbury, the director of the famous Wild West show. Two American flags are crossed below these portraits.

The same subject was also issued with the title SOUVENIR OF THE WILD WEST (see so472), and as such it was listed on back-labels from 23+26+2 of 1887 onwards, mounted on various card-mounts according to the period of issue.
The subject was mentioned in The Stationery Trades Journal of October 1887, and the point was then made that this was one of the one-shilling subjects, not the normal sixpenny portrait.
