The V and R are woven in gold silk, and the other letters in blue. The dates 1837 and 1897 are also woven in gold below the shield.

The favour is to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. It would have been worn as a badge, with a pin to push into suitable clothing.
