The V and R are woven in gold silk, and the other letters in blue. The dates 1837 and 1897 are also woven in gold below the shield.

The favour is to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. It would have been worn as a badge or favour, with a pin attached to the top turnover to push into suitable clothing. Some would also have had an additional badge attached to the bottom turnover of the favour - as shown in the image above.
